WHAT IS LAUNCHPAD?

Not a careers fair. Not a classroom. Not a sales pitch.

Before you think to yourself ‘Great another careeers Expo’, let’s stop you right there. Launchpad is not just a once a year Expo, but an eco-system.

Launchpad creates curated, in-person experiences where people gain real insight into industries, careers, and pathways, directly from the people living them.

We bring together students, parents, schools, and businesses in thoughtful environments that prioritise clarity, conversation, and informed decision-making.

About us

LaunchpadHQ has been a project that came to fruition from my personal experiences. It is crazy to realize that nothing like this has been done before, but it also excites me to think I could play a role in improving what is currently a fragmented platform in our sector.

Having worked as an educator for over 8 years, I saw firsthand how ill-prepared my students were once they left school. They would all tell me their goal ATAR Score, but most had no idea about what career they wanted to step into. Those who did, had no idea of the many different ways they could achieve their goal.

When I was the head of the Careers department at my last school, one flagship event I was always encouraged to send my students to was the annual Careers expo. This was an opportunity for students to gather more information into what they wanted to achieve post-high school.

Attending this expo format for 2 years taught me one thing: they were more of a platform for educational institutes to sell their products (courses) than it was a hub for students to gain clarity on all their options.

That is when I took it upon myself to start my own expo at the school I was working in. Not to connect students to just universities, but more importantly, to the professionals currently in the field.

Hosting this format for 2 years showed me how much more students, and parents, gained from speaking directly to talented individuals living the professions students wanted to step into, compared to them just reading brochures on different university courses. My students were able to gain real insight, real experiences, and find real pathways that extend beyond the traditional approaches. It was also a great opportunity for students to meet individuals in such unique occupations that even I had never heard of.

In our second year, our Expo welcomed over 1000 students & parents, not just from the school I was working at, but from our wider community. This was also where I came across my first problem. This initiative was always for the wider community, but many school leaders I approached from other schools did not want to advertise it to their students or parents. Why? Because it was not a program that was initiated/run by their school. The idea of marketing an event hosted at another school, aimed to benefit the whole community, was shut down. This is when I realised that schools view themselves more like a business, rather than a community.

This is why now I have decided to take this initiative independently, without any affiliation to a school. The aim of LaunchpadHQ is to become an ecosystem that every student can benefit from, irrespective of the school they attend. I look forward to having all of us work together with the shared goal of providing our coming generations with all the tools they need to live a more fulfilling life.
